Position Summary

The Vice President of Construction Services is responsible for ensuring that all phases of construction, from sales hand-off to close-out, are performed correctly, timely, profitably, and safely. The incumbent will lead teams in planning, directing, coordinating, and overseeing construction activities, ensuring the development and implementation of efficient operations and cost-effective systems to meet current and future needs of the Company. The Vice President of Construction Services ensures a high level of accountability for all positions supervised to embody and help carry out the vision and mission of Construction Operations. This position requires exceptional communication, planning, leadership, and mentoring abilities.

Essential Functions

Safety Responsibilities

  • Prioritizes safety as the utmost importance, even before production, and promotes a team culture that makes safety the primary focus for all employees at all times.
  • Adheres to safety procedures in accordance with OSHA safety policies and regulations.
  • Holds the General Superintendent-SES, General GC Superintendent, and Director of Field Operations-SES accountable for ensuring safe work practices are followed and the vision and mission of the Safety Team is carried out.

Strategic Responsibilities:

  • Fully understands and shares a passion for the Company’s core values, mission, and objectives.
  • Provides leadership and management to ensure that the mission and core values of the Company are put into practice.
  • Proactively and effectively communicates the Company’s strategy to all departments supervised.
  • Establishes and implements the strategic direction of the Company’s construction and development initiatives.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Oversees daily workflow of positions supervised (Director of Project Management, General Superintendent (Steel Erection Services), and Director of Field Operations (Steel Erection Services), General GC Superintendent, and Director of Quality and Service).
  • Assists in recruiting, interviewing, onboarding, and training staff in each department supervised.
  • Mentors, teaches, educates, encourages, and maintains direct oversight of Director of Project Management, General Superintendent (Steel Erection Services), and Director of Field Operations (Steel Erection Services), General GC Superintendent, and Director of Quality and Service.
  • Leads teams in the safe delivery of superior projects on time and on budget.
  • Interfaces and provides proactive and effective communication to clients, EPCMs, and GCs regarding important status updates on projects.
  • Has overall responsibility for establishing KPIs in all departments supervised; works with project teams to develop project goals for profitability, design, technical quality, schedule, and client satisfaction.
  • Establishes accountability for all departments for operating within their respective annual departmental budgets.
  • Annually sets challenging but attainable, measurable goals for direct reports; coaches each direct report to meet or exceed goals. Meets with each direct report mid-year to evaluate progress and exchange constructive feedback.
  • Annually assists direct reports to evaluate, assess, and update departmental goals.
  • Ensures all Department Heads supervised create, update, and maintain Standard Operating Procedures to ensure all departments are working in concert with one another to deliver extraordinary construction projects and service.
  • Handles discipline and termination of employees in accordance with company policy.
  • Reviews and determines yearly compensation for departments supervised.

Pre-Construction Services Responsibilities:

  • Communicates when needed with contacts, clients and potential clients to identify future business opportunities.
  • Provides input on project scheduling and delivery methodology.
  • Provides value alternative solutions taking into consideration cost, schedule, maintenance, and life cycle cost implications.
  • Assists in the prequalification process for sub-contractors.
  • Participates in internal estimate review and bid process team meetings.
  • Establishes and oversees effective processes and procedures between pre-construction and construction operations to ensure feedback loops are in place and integrate lessons learned for future projects.

Skills and Abilities

Education:

Bachelor's Degree in Construction Management, Architecture, or Engineering.

Experience:

10 plus years in a supervisory, managerial, or construction management leadership role.

Solid background in developing strategies, streamlining processes, and implementing plans to solve problems and increase efficiency.

Proven experience in strong teambuilding and influencing skills, a detail-oriented disposition and clear, concise communication skills.

Strong experience with federal, state, regional, and local laws and regulations related to the construction industry.

Fiscal control and budgeting experience.

Computer Skills:

Proficient in Microsoft Office products, utilizing a PC, cell phone, and company communication tools (e.g. e-mail, internet, etc.)

Certifications & Licenses:

Must have a valid drivers' license. Must be able to be insured on the Company's insurance policy as a driver for the Company
